Social Events At UCLA, Greeks realize that the most essential reason for attending one of the premier academic institutions in the nation is to learn and excel academically. However, as many students agree, campus life should extend beyond the realm of the classroom and include a delicate balance between academia and social life. The Greek community offers students unique social opportunities that provide them with enriching experiences unmatched anywhere else. From exchanges and date parties, to formals and weekend trips, students are provided with a stimulating environment to balance their challenging curriculum.
Due to poor media coverage, Greek social events have often been depicted as wild and uncontrollable. At UCLA and universities across the nation, this is a false portrayal of a system that socializes responsibly. Greeks are making progressive changes in social issues. Individual chapters provide regular educations programs and members participate in system-wide programs to address timely topics. The UCLA Greek community has taken great strides toward creating a responsible and safe environment for its members.
Fraternities have representatives from each chapter who are involved with GAMMA - Greeks Advocating Mature Management of Alcohol. GAMMA designs workshops and educational training sessions on alcohol use/abuse. In addition, it monitors Greek social events and works closely with the UCPD to promote responsible behavior and safety. |
